Things Are Heating Up

2025 was a busy year, and now that a number of personal things have been taken care of, we’re back in the saddle. If you haven’t visited the YouTube channel, there’s a new composition called “Desert Flames”, and more coming soon. We’ve added merchandise to the store — a t-shirt — with more coming. All proceeds from purchases go towards my currently rather slender retirement plan (seriously).

A confession: I finally accepted reality and decided to do a video that was created from something other than free stock clips; I was running out of material. I have no talent as a visual artist, so I enlisted the help of a commercial AI image/video generation site for the latest YouTube post, and used a lot of open-source tools (primarily ShotCut and ffmpeg) to construct the final product. My day job is developing neural memory database engines for use by LLMs, but until I did the video I wasn’t a customer of any AI company. Getting AI to do what I want as a consumer is just as frustrating as dealing with it as a developer, but I managed to get usable content after a LOT of trial-and-error, burning through copious credits in the process. The results are more or less what I had in mind. AI may have produced the images, but my badly sprained imagination is responsible for the content.

Time to sign off here, and get back to making music!
